Monitoring Requirements - Group B Occupancy
Fire Alarm Systems shall be monitored by an approved Central Monitoring Station in accordance with NFPA 72.
Exception: Monitoring by a supervising station is not required for:

- Single- and multiple-station smoke alarms required by Section 907.2.11.
- Smoke detectors in Group I-3 occupancies.
- Automatic sprinkler systems in one- and two-family dwellings.
Occupant Notification Requirements
299 Occupants or less

Fire Alarm System that monitors the dedicated functions system for fire sprinklers.
300 Occupants or more

Fire Alarm System that monitors the dedicated functions system for fire sprinklers.

Manual Fire Alarm System (Manual Pull Stations) that activates the Occupant Notification System.
1,000 Occupants or more

Fire Alarm System that monitors the dedicated functions system for fire sprinklers.

Manual Fire Alarm System (Manual Pull Stations) that activates the Occupant Notification System via Voice Evacuation System.
Occupant Notification Requirements
Public Mode Audible Requirements:
To ensure that audible public mode signals are clearly heard, you must have a sound level:

15 dB above the average ambient sound level
OR

5 dB above the maximum sound level
(whichever is greater) for at 60 seconds and measured at 5 ft above the finished floor in the area required to be served by the system.
Public Mode Audible Requirements:

(whichever is greater) for at 60 seconds and measured at 5 ft above the floor in the area required to be served by the system.

Smoke Detectors are not required where air distribution systems are incapable of spreading smoke beyond the enclosing walls, floors and ceilings of room or space where the smoke is generated.

Smoke Detectors are not required where all portions of the building served by the air distribution system are protected by area smoke detectors connected to a fire alarm system.

Shutdown Requirements:
Smoke Detectors shall be connected to a Fire Alarm System when required and Shutdown air-distribution systems when activated.
